le mot "pêle-mêle"

While thinking about my list of Things To Do Before Moving to France today, I remembered a word I learned in my sophomore year Introduction to French Literature class.  It's not a word I learned from a vocabulary list, or had seen in a movie or had stumbled upon in one of the books we were reading that semester.  Instead, it was written on my French essay in red pen: pêle-mêle.  Needless to say, I looked it up as soon as I got home.  And what does it mean?

any which way, random, chaotic

Similar English translations include: higgledy-piggledy, helter-skelter, and willy-nilly.  Apparently people lacking organizational skills have a knack for rhyming!

I'm hoping to avoid being pêle-mêle on this blog.  But I do enjoy a good rhyme.
